The Outie-Leg-up-Program (OLP)

The Outie-Leg-up-Program exists to serve the people in low to no-income individuals with the resource to get access to personal documents. These documents are key essentials in identification. They may also be essential in an employment vetting process. Access to these documents will make it easier for them to reintegrate into a working environment. Without proof of identity or driver’s license, it is nearly impossible to be employed in the existing job market. The OLP helps people get access to their documents such as:

• Identity document
• Drives license including PRDP
• Matric Certificate
• Basic Police clearance
• Any other qualifications they may already have where the evidence of that has been lost and some form of an official record may be held by a third party.
• In some instances, this service will also assist such a person to draft a CV, and setting up an online email address.

Candidate Vetting

The OLP’s primary focus is to assist people that find themselves living on the streets or in one of the many shelters. It is a reality that most homeless people have lost their basic documents that make life possible. Many homeless people find themselves in a compromised situation for many reasons. Many have been victims of crime.

Living on the streets creates substantial challenges for individuals making the homeless prone to substance abuse. A large portion of the homeless are living with broken moral and have lost hope. The OLP wants to help the homeless regain hope for a future by making them our clients in this service. The OLP has and will continue to partner with homeless shelters such as the Payless shelter in Durban CBD.

The OLP does not endorse the kind of assistance that promotes a slothful mindset in its clients. We want to be a stepping stone for those who WANT to improve their situation but just do not have the means. We mustn’t be seen as a handout station, so we encourage our clients to participate in their own restoration process.

OLP funding

The funding for the OLP is completely reliant on donations, and third-party gratuities. Donations or gratuities are made by individuals that have seen the potential of the OLP and have aligned themselves with our efforts. We hope to be able to gain support from the corporate business community to support growth for this ideal.

Although the OLP is administered by SMDN and volunteers its capacity is entirely dependent on the funding that it can generate.
