Earlier today I was at home enjoying a relaxing day with my family when the phone rang and I was activated to duty because my city needed my service. As a law enforcement official and rescue specialist, this kind of call to service are not uncommon.
This takes my thinking back to 2017 when I was setting up an event that changed my perspective on God’s grace for my life in a brand new light. As part of my preparations for that event, I was privileged to share a meeting with a few pastors. One of the men at that meeting mentioned something that struck me deeply.
He related the concept of reconciliation to the Jewish culture and calendar. This touched me so deeply that it has become part of my thinking when I consider the current political climate in my region of KZN.
Prophetically speaking the unrest and political turbulence that is rampant in my home city of Durban and the other metropolitan cities is right on time. Taken from Biblical ordnance and historical timelines the seventh term or season was very often signified by a season of reconciliation and restoration.
Let’s put this into perspective. South Africa is currently in its sixth term of office in a democratic rule. In the context of the season of reconciliation that is expected in keeping with the way God did things in Biblical times, there is a lot to be grateful for.
It does not make any sense that one should look at a country that is now starting to burn from the streets up as unidentified masses plunder, loot, and torch our cities. Thankfully for those who hold to faith in Jesus and have an understanding of His grace, this is a season to be called to action.
For a season of reconciliation and restoration to take place there must first be a reason. There must be broken relationships. There must be a reason for forgiveness and healing. This is precisely why we are seeing widespread upheaval and destruction in our cities at the moment.
What then is the duty of the believers in a nation where hope seems to be lost and widespread looting is rapidly becoming the norm?
God’s children should rest assured that He is ultimately still in control over this fallen world. Despite the anarchy we see in our cities we should take note that His plan will never fail.
By His Holy Spirit, the Lord has inspired His Word and lets us understand what He is doing in our lives. I believe wholeheartedly that our nation is heading for a season of healing and restoration. Having said this I can not get away from the fact that healing will be preceded by turbulence.
We must invest ourselves to intercede for our nation and our cities. It’s for a time like this that God has called his people to stand up and be counted as the salt of the earth.
We have access to His Spirit and have the hope that He gives. We have the reassurance that His provision will care for our needs. We have insight into God’s plans and purposes for us. We have every reason to stay focused remain calm and be the voice of reason for a nation that is in a desperate place crying out for hope.
It is our privilege and honor to intercede for and minister to a world that needs a Lord that they do not know yet. The Lord’s healing is coming to our nation. Until it comes His children have a God-given duty to petition His Spirit to heal our land and bring our people to a place of peace with Him.
The key to healing and restoration in our nation is when God’s timing and the obedience of His children come together with a servant’s heart. We are called to be willing servants for His purpose to intercede for and minister to the people He puts in our path.
Reading this post means that your Father and Lord is calling YOU to bring your city before Him in prayer. Pray for His healing to become part of your community and be willing to be the voice of reason in a desperate world that needs His peace.
